Presenter at Radio Belluno
Nick Simcock
I was born in Stoke on Trent, England in 1971. I lived and worked in Manchester for three years where I met my Italian wife. Seven years ago we got married and moved to Belluno.
When I arrived in Italy I didn't know that the English accent was in fashion. I didn't know who Nick The Nightfly was and had never listened to a song by Battiato.
I remember that my wife told me that I would be received in a positive way, or at least curious, just becasue I am English. Obviously I was happy about this, but also a little embrassed. What does it mean to be English? What do they excpect of me? When I accepted the job at Radio Belluno my level of Italian was really basic. I thought,"I'm signing a contract to be a Radio Presenter and I am not able to speak the language of the listeners. What a strange world!"

I believe that radio is a voice that speaks for and with the people, a voice that entertains and comforts, that offers inspiration and hope and moments of reflection in a world that's spining ever faster. It maybe a cliché, but I truly believe that music can help us to overcome the most difficult of times. It's a source of joy and energy. Music is food for the soul.
Ciao for now,
Nick.
